Caridad Estrada (Environmental Engineering)

Caridad Estrada is a junior Environmental Engineering student at Florida International University, with experience in environmental compliance, bioremediation, and a passion for environmental health and sustainability. She is currently an NSF LSAMP Scholar, a McNair Scholar and a Department of Energy (DOE) Fellow at FIU where she conducts research on remediation technologies for mercury contamination at FIU’s Applied Research Center. In addition to this, she is the Director of Internal Affairs of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers where she contributes to the advancement of minorities in STEM. Hailing from the Caribbean, her upbringing and exposure to extreme weather events has influenced her decision to further her education and professional career in the area of environmental management. Upon graduation, Caridad plans to enroll in an Environmental Engineering Ph.D. program where she hopes to further her research in air pollution, climate change and hazardous substances such as mercury and persistent organic pollutants.
