Carlos Rios graduated cum laude from the University of Florida in 2023 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Robotics from Florida International University (FIU). He joined the Department of Energy (DOE) Fellows program at FIU’s Applied Research Center in his first semester as a graduate student to pursue his interests in autonomous robot design and programming and is currently working on research centered on using autonomous robotics and 3D mapping LIDAR software to scan and generate accurate models of nuclear facilities and disposal sites to search for structural damage and spills more efficiently. His work in the field that he is passionate about motivates him in his studies and allows him the opportunity to experience the field from the professional side, rather than from an educational perspective.
