Fabiola Rivera-Noriega is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Computer Science at Florida International University (FIU), concurrently serving as a Department of Energy (DOE) Fellow at FIU’s Applied Research Center (ARC). Her primary focus revolves around the development of Artificial Intelligence technologies, with a specific emphasis on Machine Learning and Deep Learning. She is dedicated to establishing connections between groundwater wells and aquifer tube wells along the Columbia River shoreline at the DOE’s Hanford Site in Washington.
This research holds significant importance in contributing to the overarching objective of maintaining Hexavalent Chromium Cr[VI] levels below a specified amount in the aquifer tube wells. The research involves the utilization of Deep Learning models, including Long Short-Term Memory models (LSTMs), as well as generative models such as Autoencoders and Variational Autoencoders (VAEs). Fabiola Rivera-Noriega was inducted as part of the DOE Fellows Class of 2023 and is currently benefiting from the mentorship of Dr. Himanshu Upadhyay.
