Fabiola Rivera-Noriega (Computer Science)
After earning her undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Fabiola Rivera Noriega is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Florida International University. She concurrently serves as a Research Assistant and a Department of Energy (DOE) Fellow at FIU’s Applied Research Center (ARC).
Her research focuses on the development of Artificial Intelligence technologies, with a particular emphasis on Machine Learning and Deep Learning. She has contributed to several DOE projects, including establishing connections between groundwater wells and aquifer tube wells along the Columbia River shoreline at the Hanford Site in Washington and predicting radionuclide concentrations in wells at DOE’s Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) in Aiken, South Carolina, and identifying optimal sampling locations for radon detection at SRNL.
Her work leverages advanced Deep Learning models, such Deep Neural Network models (DNN), and generative models like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Variational Autoencoders (VAEs). Additionally, she has introduced novel contributions to the scientific community, including new preprocessing, modeling, and explainability algorithms.
She has presented her research at multiple conferences, including the Waste Management Symposia 2024 and the 20th International Conference on Data Science (ICDATA’24). Inducted as part of the DOE Fellows Class of 2023, Fabiola Rivera Noriega is currently mentored by Dr. Himanshu Upadhyay.
