FIU DOE Fellows Class of 2019

It is my pleasure and honor to announce the FIU DOE Fellows Class of 2019. An incredible group of talented 14 STEM FIU students. Last Thursday (11/7), twelve students were inducted as DOE EM Fellows and two students were inducted as DOE LM Fellows. Officials from DOE gathered with FIU leaders at the 13th-annual induction ceremony for STEM students who join 16 current fellows in FIU’s Science & Technology Workforce Development Program (https://fellows.fiu.edu). DOE-EM was represented by Leonard Spearman, Sr. Advisor to Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management, and Jean Pablo Pabon (Program Manager). In addition, DOE was represented by DOE LM official and staff. This included Mr. Carmelo Melendez, Director Office of Legacy Management, as well as, David Shaffer, Director Office of Site Operations, and Jelena Dayvault, Site Manager. FIU officials also participated and provided remarks during the ceremony. FIU representation included: FIU Provost (Dr. Kenneth Furton), Vice President for Research and Economic Development (Dr. Andres Gil) and Dean of College of Engineering and Computing (Dr. John Volakis), Dr. Ines Triay (ARC Executive Director), Dr. Leonel Lagos (DOE Fellows Director and PI), Dr. Ravi Gudavalli (DOE Fellows Program Manager), ARC staff, mentors and current and former DOE Fellows. Also during the ceremony awards were presented to the DOE Fellow mentor and mentee of the year (Dr. Yelena Katsenovich and Tristan Simoes-Ponce) and DOE Fellows poster exhibition/competition winners for undergraduate (1st place Christopher Excellent, 2nd  place Katherine De La Rosa, 2nd place Anilegna Nunez) and graduate (1st place Michael Thompson, 2nd place Roger Boza, 2nd place Tristan Simoes-Ponce) poster presentations
