About DOE Fellow
Jennifer Arniella received a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Florida International University in Fall of 2014. Her interests include engineering design, robotics, renewable energy and eco-friendly engineering. She is a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at the FIU Chapter. Jennifer is now working at Permasteelisa North America as a building information designer.

DOE Related Projects
Jennifer is a DOE Fellow for the DOE-FIU Science and Technology Workforce Development Program, currently working on the analysis of life expectancy for waste transfer lines located at the Hanford Site under the supervision of mentor Mr. Dennis Washenfelder and Dr. Dwayne McDaniel. Using wall thickness measurements from ultrasonic transducers and calipers, wear rates were developed for various pipelines of different materials, sizes, and services offered contained within the waste transfer system. Jennifer’s research consists of developing wear rates to predict the existing system’s remaining useful life. It will also be used to determine design allowances needed for new piping and pipe jumpers. This work is necessary because of regulations that require integrity assessments of tanks systems that store and transfer dangerous waste. Information was acquired from pipelines listed for inspection and from opportunistic evaluations of pipelines that have been removed from service. At this moment all the pipelines have been analyzed and the jumper sections will be analyzed next. When the data pertaining to all other jumpers is graphed and analyzed, further comparison between pipelines will be performed to obtain a more accurate corrosion/erosion rate.
