Jorge J. Montesino is an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Florida International University. He is a member of the Honors College, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a recipient of the Bright Future’s Academic Scholar Award. Jorge’s research focuses on the study of reinforced concrete degradation issues, in particular, in acidic environments with radioactive materials, such as the H-Canyon exhaust tunnel facility located at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site. Jorge’s research work also includes the identification and evaluation of coatings or fixatives that can be applied on deteriorated concrete surfaces to mitigate and prevent further structural degradation. Upon completion of his degree, Jorge plans to pursue a Master of Science in civil engineering with a focus on geotechnical and structural engineering.
