Jose Solares (Computer Engineering)

Jose Solares is an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in computer engineering at Florida International University (FIU). Jose was inducted into the DOE Fellows class of 2024 and is currently working under the mentorship of Anthony Abrahao at FIU’s Applied Research Center, Robotics Lab. 

His research focuses on the development of a robotic system for waste segregation in radioactive waste disposal tanks at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). Utilizing a UR16e robotic arm and machine learning algorithms, his work aims to improve the efficiency and accuracy of waste sorting in hazardous environments. This research contributes to enhancing the safety and effectiveness of nuclear waste management processes.
