Kevin Yulkowski (Mechanical Engineering)
Kevin Yulkowski is an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at Florida International University (FIU). Kevin was inducted into the DOE Fellows class of 2024 and is currently working as a student researcher under the mentorship of Mackenson Telusma at FIU’s Applied Research Center, Robotics Lab.
His research focuses on the development of a semiautonomous wall-crawling platform. The objective of this research is to remotely apply a protective coating onto the damaged walls of the H-Canyon Exhaust (HCAEX) tunnel, located at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). This research aims to extend the service life of H-Canyon, a nuclear facility, and produce an effective wall and ceiling restoration tool designed for hazardous environments.
His research was awarded first place in the DOE 2024 Poster Exhibition undergraduate division and earned him a summer internship to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.
