
Nicole Stofenmacher (Environmental Engineering)
Nicole Stofenmacher is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Florida International University. She was officially inducted as part of the Department of Energy Fellows Class of 2024, under the FIU-DOE Cooperative Agreement, and is under the mentorship of Dr. Pieter Hazenberg. She is currently assisting on the development of an updated, integrated hydrology model of Basin 6, an area west of DOE’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), by overseeing data collection and analysis to support its validation and calibration.
Her interests include sustainability, environmental modeling, climate science and waste management strategies. She is working on acquiring proficiency in different modeling software programs such as GIS and ATS to further her professional development and continue her work as a DOE Fellow.
After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Nicole plans to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree. She intends to become a professional civil/environmental engineer and further immerse herself in areas such as environmental remediation, water resources, waste management, and sustainable development.
