Sahaira Paz (Mechanical Engineering)
Sahaira Paz is a first-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Florida International University, where she is a Department of Energy (DOE) Fellow. She currently conducts research in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) lab under the Legacy Management division, where her work focuses on analyzing data from an autonomous rover system equipped with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Her research aims to monitor subsurface changes in disposal cells at national Legacy Management (LM) sites, specifically working to develop an autonomous platform that facilitates the continuous, safe management of disposal cells used for storing radioactive materials.
Sahaira’s research is fueled by her passion for environmental conservation and her commitment to integrating innovative engineering solutions with sustainable practices. She is dedicated to exploring the relationship between severe climate conditions and disposal cells, and she aims to contribute to developing reliable systems that can safely store hazardous materials.
