Santiago Cuartas Palacio (Computer Engineering)
Santiago Cuartas is a master’s student in computer engineering at Florida International University (FIU), where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. He was inducted into the DOE Fellows class of 2024 and is currently working under the mentorship of Anthony Abrahao and Mackenson Telusma at FIU’s Applied Research Center, Robotics Lab.
His research focuses on the development of a semi-autonomous repair and waste segregation system with plug-and-play tools for remote maintenance and cleaning at DOE nuclear sites. The goal of this research is to minimize human exposure to radiation, hazardous waste, and other dangerous materials by leveraging robotic systems to perform critical repair and decontamination tasks.
