Valeria Ocampo is an undergraduate student at Florida International University (FIU) and is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. She is expected to graduate in spring 2026 and plans to further her education with a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. Her professional interests lie in environmental remediation, nuclear and radiochemistry, and radioactive waste.

Valeria is also a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Fellow, working specifically with Legacy Management (LM), allowing her to observe both LM and EM technical areas. She is currently working under the mentorship of Dr. Ravi Gudavalli. Her current research involves using a hydroxyapatite permeable reactive barrier (PRB) to remove uranium, alongside gaining a better understanding of how environmental factors influence the uranium-hydroxyapatite interaction at the Old Rifle, CO site.
