Victor Gonzalez is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and is expected to graduate in the Fall of 2024. Upon his graduation, he intends on going to graduate school to pursue a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Victor contributes to the Department of Energy by working with researchers at Florida International University’s Applied Research Center (FIU-ARC) and scientists at the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) on intumescent foams and foam plug technologies. Under the guidance and professional expertise of Mr. Joseph Sinicrope and Ms. Mellissa Komninakis, he is conducting tests and evaluations to mitigate contaminant release during nuclear pipe dismantling in support of a hot demo at the F/HArea labs at Savannah River Site (SRS). . Victor’s efforts from investigation on intumescent foam technologies will prevent radioactive fluid flow out of decommissioned pipes at SRS.
