Anilegna Nunez Abreu (Mechanical Engineering)

Anilegna Nunez Abreu is an undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at Florida International University. Her professional interests include materials engineering, mechanical design, prototyping, and programming.  She spent her past summer interning at DOE-EM Headquarters and has received internship offers from Boeing and GE Aviation. Under the mentorship of Mayren Echeverria, Anilegna is currently working on evaluating coatings and repair materials for the protection of the H-Canyon Exhaust Tunnel at the Savannah River Site. Outside of her role as a DOE Fellow, she is an undergraduate research assistant for the STEM Institute where her project involves investigating mechanical engineering student’s perception of design throughout the course of a senior design course sequence. Anilegna is also a Dean’s Scholar within the Honors College, a mentor at the Honors College EDGE Lab, and a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. After graduation Anilegna plans on pursuing a master’s degree in materials engineering.
