Alejandro Hernandez (Chemistry)

DOE Fellow, Mr. Alejandro Hernandez, was awarded one of the twelve national fellowships for the National Nuclear Chemistry School, funded by the Department of Energy and sponsored by the American Chemical Society.

During this six-week program at San José State University, Alejandro attended lectures by prominent nuclear scientists on the fundamentals and applications of nuclear science (e.g., nuclear medicine, environmental radiochemistry, energy production, etc.), performed hands-on experiments on state-of-the-art instrumentation routinely used in the nuclear field, as well as visited national lab facilities, including the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Lab and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.

The summer school program was founded as an educational outreach and workforce development activity to promote expertise in nuclear science and to provide trained personnel to meet national needs in nuclear research.
