Karina Hernandez is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering at Florida International University and a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Fellow. Her academic interests include renewable energy, radioactive waste management, and carbon sequestration technology. Karina serves as the Secretary for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and she is also an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). She was officially inducted as part of the DOE Fellows Class of 2021 and is under the mentorship of Dr. Johnbull Dickson. After graduating with her Bachelor’s degree, Karina plans to continue her environmental education by pursuing a Master’s degree.
