Elsa Cabrejo is completing her Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at Florida International University. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Distrital in Bogota, Colombia. She also holds a post graduate degree in Finance from Universidad Nuestra Senora del Rosario in Bogota. Her interests include the characterization and modeling of contaminant behavior in water, as a method for starting remediation efforts and to evaluate the effectiveness of remediation technologies. She is also interested in the remediation of hazardous waste, and how to prevent damage to ecosystems, the environment and human health. During Spring 2009, She became a member of the American Society of Environmental Engineers. Elsa is currently working as engineer 1 at Dade County Environmental Department.

DOE Related Projects:
Currently, Elsa is working on modeling interactions of suspended and bed load sediments with mercury at the East Fork Poplar Creek in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The model will improve mercury transport simulations in the stream and will support establishment of TMDLs.
